Inspirational Ideas: Anniversary Time Capsule

The anniversary time capsule was different colored cars and envelopes representing our 1st, 5th, 10th, 25th, and 50th anniversaries. People chose a year and wrote down their predictions or wishes for our future for us to open on the corresponding anniversaries. I love that some of them won't be read for another 25 or 50 years!

South Bay Sites

I know Nestledown is probably out, but I think it would be fun to go see it. Plus, Here Comes the Guide says that site fees go from $3500 to $15000, so we could see what the cheap areas are.
http://www.herecomestheguide.com/location/detail/nestldown/

Mountain Winery in Saratoga. Obviously a fancier feel, but really pretty grounds.
http://www.herecomestheguide.com/location/detail/mountain-winery/

I'm pretty sure that this one is the one your parents didn't even get out at, but if we have time in Santa Cruz I'd kinda like to see it.
http://www.herecomestheguide.com/location/detail/historic-sand-rock-farm/

Very pretty flowers and meadowy area. Not wild about it otherwise.
http://www.herecomestheguide.com/location/detail/cypress-meadows/

I don't really see much more that I am very interested in.

More East Bay Sites to Check Out

So here's the Unitarian church. Found different views of it. No blue carpet, but seeing more pictures, not really as interested anymore.
http://tour.circlepix.com/tour.htm?id=427299&refurl=uucb.org
K: I as well am not really feeling it. . . .

Not that excited by this one, but it's nicer than some. It's in Lafayette, though.
http://www.wildwoodacres.com/door/
K: This one could be nice. The photo quality is bad, so it makes it hard to tell. Here are some possible drawbacks though: have to use the on site catering (and it starts at $85); if we want Saturday night, it's $3000 venue fee (or $1500 during the day); and the hours are a bit odd, the Saturday night wedding can't start til 6.

Kinda like some of the areas here, but wish there were more pictures. Probably fancier than I would want, but pretty.
http://www.dunsmuir.org/weddings.htm
K: I think I came across this place before. I like it and think it's pretty, but it's expensive, at $3500 for the venue. Plus, you don't even get to go inside the house. The event is all outside on the lawn. You have to pay extra to have photos with the wedding party inside the house. We can go look and see if we love it, since I do think it's really nice, just some of the rental details are weird.

Okay, I don't really feel like I need to see any of the above ones. There are many sites that are pretty, but at least from the pictures I don't get the feeling I want. I'd be up for looking at quite a few, and I can try to set up appointments, but don't know where I would want to go.

Tomorrow I WILL do more of the South Bay, but right now I'm exhausted from all the running around.

Photographers

First one I don't actually like, but wanted to discuss.
http://www.akrowlandphotography.com/photography/gallery1.html#
Some of their photos are so heavily photoshoped that it makes it look, well, fake. I really don't like this, and would like to avoid it at all costs.

I like a lot of these, but I can't find pricing anywhere.
http://www.adelineandgrace.com/
K: $4200 for 6 hours and includes other things (look under "investment"); I like them

Not terribly impressed, but some good shots.
http://www.alexfradkinfoto.com/#
K: don't like very much

I like these quite a bit more, it says she starts at $4000 for 7 hours.
http://www.alicechenphoto.com/
K: not too impressed

Good shots, but don't really feel personal to me.
http://www.amyandstuart.com/
K: I actually really like these, but they're in Los Angeles

Here's more. I looked through all the S.C. ones, and was unimpressed. Here are a few Berkeley one's that I think are a bit better than the majority.

http://www.mattobrienphotography.com/weddings.html
clearly has a certain style, certain shots are not really good though, so am rather ambivalent

Okay, I take it back. There aren't two good photographers in Berkeley, as far as I can tell. I just spent an hour looking at various sites for Santa Cruz and Berkeley. The majority of them look like photos I can take. The ones that don't are too heavily photoshoped.

Here's my thinking on it. As far as I can tell, Kelty's engagement photos are nearly unique in that I feel like they really give you a sense of who the people are and feel very personal. This to me is a really strong selling point. I'm not too sure about this, but I feel like the reason to be so careful in selecting a photographer for your engagement shoot is sorta to test them out for the wedding. I get that, I do. Since she's never done a wedding, I understand the retisince towards going forward with her. But to me, I feel like going with her for the engagement shoot will tell us as much as we could possibly know about her for the actual wedding photography, and if we don't enjoy the experience or have problems that sustain, we can find a new photographer. What do you think?

Santa Cruz Locations

Today's post will just be places I'm interested in around Santa Cruz.

1) Can't entirely tell from the pictures, but it looks like it has a cool feel and the rate is good. It's entirely possible we would go there and it would just seem drab and dusty. But I'm going to include it.
http://www.herecomestheguide.com/location/detail/vignette-vintage-ranch-weddings/
http://www.vignetteevents.com/naturalnuptials.html

2) I know we've talked about this place (or at least that you sent me a link), but I like it.
http://www.herecomestheguide.com/location/detail/pacific-oaks-vineyard-estate/

3) I also know I've looked at this, but I can't remember if it was with you.
http://www.herecomestheguide.com/location/detail/kennolyn/
Their website has more pictures than I saw before, and I really like the feel of some of them.
http://www.kennolyn.com/weddings/index.shtml

4) Can't remember if this was one of the one's your parents went to check out, but I'd like to go look at it with you. I know we've discussed it too, but there aren't many places in Santa Cruz.
http://www.herecomestheguide.com/location/detail/historic-sand-rock-farm/

I know this isn't much, but you have already listed some others that I am interested in. I'm going to try to do the east bay tomorrow or Friday. Let me know what you think.
1. In the ceremony program, have a section of "what was going on when we first started dating 10 years ago"

2. Hang a chandelier from a tree above us during the ceremony

3. Incorporate vintage enamel flower pins . . . somehow. Or not. I just love them so so much. Maybe for placecards; but then it seems like they would be favors, which seems weird for favors.

4. I love these colors and patterns. From http://www.jackandlulu.com/

5. Fake mustaches on sticks.
6. Pinwheels. Those things just make me smile
7. Paper chains (rings of construction paper)-perhaps behind a dessert bar or hanging in a photo booth
8. At each place setting, have a card with an icebreaker-a funny fact about each person at the table with no names attached

Locations

There are an overwhelming number of choices available in the Bay Area. First we have to narrow it down to a general location: Santa Cruz, Berkeley, San Francisco, Carmel, Oakland?

Below are a few options that I have been looking at:
1. Marin Headlands Art Center http://www.headlands.org/
A wedding at the location can be seen here: http://www.stylemepretty.com/2009/03/11/m/

2. Monarch Cove Inn (Santa Cruz/Capitola)
http://www.monarch-cove-inn.com/wedding.html and on Yelp at http://www.yelp.com/biz/monarch-cove-inn-capitola

3. The Beach House at Temescal Regional Recreation Area and The Brazil Room
http://www.ebparks.org/activities/corpfamily#shoreline

4. The Hillside Club in Berkeley?
http://www.hillsideclub.org/history.htm

5. Healdsburg Country Gardens
http://www.hcountrygardens.com/PhotoGallery.htm

6. The Hogg Residents

7. The Pie Ranch http://www.pieranch.org/
A friend told me about this place and is going to send a link with pics of a wedding there.

8. Wilder Ranch
COMMENTS
1. I remember looking at this place before. It seems pretty good, but from the pictures it makes the actual location look kinda dark. I can't tell what the area around the building is like (probably gorgeous), and the lighting in the professional photography is nice, but the place kinda feels dirty or grungy, or I don't know exactly how to say it. Anyway, we can check it out, but I'm not wild about this one.

2. Seems gorgeous. That strip of the coast is really nice. I wish I could see more of the actual building in any of those pictures, but that one would be easy to check out when you're out here. I'd definitely like to. Did you see on Yelp that it's $4500, but you get it for all of Friday and Saturday to yourselves. That's pretty nice.

3. I'm going to go up there by Sunday at the latest to check it out. I might have time before then, but I've vowed to myself to go check it out this week.

4. Can't really tell, couldn't find any pictures on their website. The little ones I could see looked good. If it is the building I'm thinking of, it's pretty good, but my biggest concern was something from yelp. It said you have to find street parking around there (cedar and spruce) which would be ridiculous for ~70 people. Something to consider.

5. Gorgeous. I'd be worried about the expense. It's $9500 for a Saturday. They have another website here (http://www.hcgweddings.com). So yes, absolutely gorgeous, but I think too much money.

6. Definitely would like to go see it. You guys speak so highly of it.

Ceremony

We have yet to discuss details about the ceremony, or how we want to approach the religion that is in it. But I came across this blessing today, and I really like it. It's called "Blessing for a Marriage" by James Dillet Freeman.
Link to it: http://www.unity.org/prayer/prayersAffirmations/blessingForAMarriageText.html

Music

If we use an ipod to play the music during everything, bring backups. Like CDs, in case the ipod dies or fails us somehow. Just read a horror story about that. Scary.
